Current Sports and Activities Impacted By COVID-19
Concerning Spring 2021 sports, all indoor athletic programs are canceled. Additionally, the start of outdoor athletic programs will be delayed until February 1, 2021. This decision may be overturned or adjusted at any time based on guidance and directives from the city, county, state agencies, or the NJCAA. Athletic Directors and coaches will work together to find engagement opportunities for our indoor athletes if they are able to do so safely and COVID-19 data and metrics move in the right direction.
The Maricopa Community Colleges will not be holding in-person tryouts at this time. Prospective student-athletes are encouraged to connect with college athletic staff for further information. The Maricopa Community Colleges does not currently provide a COVID-19 testing protocol for student-athletes.
The Maricopa Community Colleges’ athletic facilities will remain closed through December 31, 2020. No organized in-person athletic activities will be available during this time. National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Students
The suspension of sports will not have an effect on a student-athlete’s NJCAA eligibility. A year of NJCAA eligibility WILL NOT be used if a student-athlete is certified and competes in an NJCAA sport in the spring of 2021. This is accurate no matter the amount of competition competed in and will be regocnized by NJCAA, NCAA and NAIA organizations.
All student athletes signed to an NJCAA Letter of Intent will have their scholarships honored for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters should they enroll at their Maricopa Community College, whether athletics are suspended or not.
